(ARCHIVED) The New Year is Coming!

2016 is coming to a close, and a new year is approaching!

2016 was an incredible year for us: We've started making new content on our Youtube channel and in the process, gained a huge fanbase, with over 250 subscribers as of when I'm writing this post. We've also started working on products from RoadRailer Simulations, with our first Workshop scenarios available soon on the Steam Workshop! Technology Showdown: The Prologue is also being worked on, which is scheduled to be released in mid-2017. I could go on and on, but that's not what we're talking about today.

To wrap up the year, we have released a 1.02 update to The SFC Site 2 Public Beta, also known as the New Years' Update. Here is what has changed:

The SFC Site 2 Public Beta 1.02 (December 28th, 2016)
- RoadRailer Simulations website now accessible with Scenario Workshop and Current Products section
- Changed "Software Room" and "Technology Showdown" logos in the Series page
- Enhanced Downloads page
- Improved SFC Live page (2017 SFC Live Survey available until Jan. 20th)
- Removed "Union and Friends" in the Series page

Check out the new website update when you have the chance:
http://www.sagefun.com

Also, a little reminder, there will be NO SFC Live on New Years Eve (December 31st), January 7th, and January 14th. SFC Live will be resuming on January 21st, 2017. And since the new year is coming around the corner, we would like to hear your feedback on what new games we should play on SFC Live for 2017, and what you would like to see in our other segments of the live show.

Take our 2017 SFC Live Survey here (ends on January 20th):
http://sfcpoll.polldaddy.com/s/sfc-live-2017-survey

Finally, like we said in the beginning, RoadRailer Simulations' products are now in the pipeline! Our first product will be a series of Train Simulator scenarios for the Bergen Line Workshop route, made by Workshop route extraordinaire, Minerman146. Our first scenario is called "NJT Train 1153", and will be released on December 29th, right around the same time as the Croxton Ordinary, which is the Scenario Builder's Edition of the New York Division-Bergen Line Workshop route.

We are giving you a little sneak peek at this new scenario with a little briefing: You are the engineer of NJ Transit(R) Train 1153, which goes from Hoboken, NJ to Suffern, NY. Your power is an ALP-45DP, running in diesel mode. Try to make the schedule! This is based on the real timetable of NJT Train 1153.

Check out RoadRailer Simulations here:
http://sagefun.com/RRS/

Like we said before when we do these posts: Thanks you for taking the time reading them! And thank you so much guys for supporting our content and we'll have more ready for you next year! We'll also have more updates on our other projects next year, but for now, we'll see you later!

(ARCHIVED) The SFC Site 2 - What You'll Need To Know

UPDATE: We have released a quick Public Beta 1.01 patch to fix some issues with the Mobile Site and the Music page.

The SFC Site 2 has been officially released in Public Beta form, and is a replacement for The SFC Site 1.x releases, which have been with us since 2013. Now you might ask to yourself, what do I need to know about this new website release? Here are some of the questions you might ask below:

What is The SFC Site 2?
The SFC Site 2 is the second major release of The SFC Site, which was in development since the Summer of 2016. The Public Beta is available today, and is a replacement for The SFC Site 1.x releases, which have been with us since 2013.

What's new in this release?
The SFC Site 2 is the biggest website update we've ever done. There are so many new features compared to the 1.x releases, but I'll give you a rundown:

The SFC Site Version 2.0 (Public Beta) Changelog:
- Redesigned Homepage with a new, colorful flat look
- Redesigned Series page with our content separated into three categories: Tech, Gaming, and Entertainment
- Completely redesigned (from the ground up) SFC Site Mobile 2 (currently Under Construction)
- Added a dedicated SFC Live page with an embedded IRC chatroom
- Added the Technology Showdown OST in the Music Downloads page
- Added a new "Forest in the Distance" wallpaper in the Wallpaper Downloads page
- Added The SFC Archives, our content dating back to the past, in the Downloads section
- Added Twitter to the Social bar
- Revamped Backstage & Newsletter, Video Requests, and Contact Email system
- Updated the Backstage & Newsletter Registration page with reCAPTCHA 2.0 Verification
- Updated the Contact Us page with reCAPTCHA 2.0 Verification and the Contact Us
Rules & Regulations page removal
- Updated the Video Requests page with the ability to request projects and reCAPTCHA 2.0 Verification
- Enhanced Donate page
- Enhanced About Us page
- Enhanced Tech Selections of the Week page with images and enhanced Apple Product and Software Generator
- A bunch of other improvements
- A bunch of major and minor bugs fixed

What's new from the previous developer release?
We've been offering developer releases of The SFC Site 2 through our free e-mail service, Backstage & Newsletter. The latest one we offered was 2.0 Beta 4.1 (2.0b4.1). Here's what's new from the previous private Beta release:

The SFC Site Version 2.0 Public Beta Changelog (compared to 2.0b4.1):
- Added The SFC Archives, our content dating back to the past, in the Downloads section
- Added Twitter to the Social bar
- Added two pieces of music from the Technology Showdown OST: Sneaking into Headquarters and Tux's Ringtone
- Updated the Video Requests page with the ability to request projects
- Enhanced Donate page
- Enhanced About Us page
- Removed Codename Early Access from the Notify Me page (now redirects to Backstage & Newsletter)
- Improvements and bug fixes with the SFC Site Mobile 2
- Improvements and bug fixes with the Series page
- Other improvements and bug fixes

Why is it in Public Beta?
The SFC Site 2 is currently work-in-progress, so there are some parts of the site that are missing or may not work. However, we've tried our best to fix as many bugs as possible, and if you do happen to come across one, please report them here. We will bring updates and patches to the Public Beta whenever possible.

When does The SFC Site 2 get officially released?
The SFC Site 2's final release will be in Spring 2017. Like we said before, we will be offering exclusive development builds of The SFC Site 2 via Backstage & Newsletter, which you can sign up for here, so you can get a exclusive peek at what we're working on and have you report any issues on the website. We would love to get in touch with you on what features should be added and what bugs should be fixed.

What else to do next?
With The SFC Site 2's official Public Beta release, we have updated ALL of our Youtube videos (and removed a bunch that will be put into The SFC Archives later next year) to reflect on the change. We are preparing for an entirely new year (2017), and we want this to be our best year yet! Also, since we've recently reached over 250 subscribers on our Youtube channel, we are now on Twitter, so follow us today if you haven't yet for more SFC updates!

And don't forget about SFC Live! We are streaming our final two streams on December 10th and December 17th respectively, at 7PM EST/6PM CST/12AM UTC. We've already explained details on our 250th Subscriber Post, which you can view on The SFC Blog. Be sure to watch the streams on our new SFC Live page on our website today! http://www.sagefun.com/live.html

That's all we have for now. Thanks for taking the time to reading this article!

(ARCHIVED) SFC Live Update

I wanted to talk about this for quite some time.

For those who don't know, SFC Live is our new live gaming show that debuted on October 29th, 2016. It has been in the planning stages since late 2014, and 2 years later, we finally nailed it. We're currently in the middle of the Marble Blast Platinum Championships, an annual gaming event where players can participate and win fabulous prizes! The final game is on December 17th at 7PM Eastern, where we will be determining who's the next Marble Blast Champion, and who will also win the $20 Steam/iTunes Credit.

However, like many new things, there's always going to be a major change to go with it, and oh boy, do we have a bunch to talk about! I'll try to keep it short for this article:

1. Our SFC Live Recording System. You might have noticed our previous episodes of SFC Live are now gone from Youtube. Why? Well, the reason is simple: Our livestreams are over an hour long and that's not the usual duration of our videos, especially livestream recordings. As we progress with SFC Live, we'll add more content into the mix, thus our streams will get longer and so does the duration.

So starting with this week's livestream, after it is over, the recording will be up until the next SFC Live is scheduled on Youtube. After the next scheduled SFC Live goes up, we will remove the previous episode to make way for another. That way, our Youtube channel will be clean from over-an-hour-long videos.

But what will happen to the archived episodes? Well, we'll find a place for them eventually, but for now, after the stream is over, you can watch the recording until we schedule our next stream on Youtube.

2. Our new Primary Chatroom. Last week, we debuted a new primary chatroom which used Discord. However, we had come across some issues with it, so instead for this week and from now on, we're going for a more traditional IRC chatroom, using the Geekshed IRC server, which includes a working bot that detects blacklisted words and spam a heck of a lot better and faster as well, and you do not need to sign up for an account to join; all you need to do is enter a nickname and that's it. It'll be in the description of our live streams, until the release of The SFC Site 2 (which will debut the SFC Live page).

3. An SFC Site 2 Beta 4 Update. We've recently pushed out a dot update to The SFC Site 2 Beta 4, which debuted on the Early Access forum last week. The biggest change obviously is an enhanced SFC Live page, with the embedded IRC chatroom (powered by KiwiIRC), updated Rules and Regulations and some IRC Chatroom Help and Tips to go with it! However, there's other features that are either improved upon or added, and that is available in the changelog below:

The SFC Site version 2.0 Beta 4.1 (2.0b4.1) Changelog:
- Redesigned Series page with three categories of content: Tech, Gaming, and Entertainment
- Enhanced SFC Live page with embedded IRC chatroom, updated Rules and Regulations, and added IRC Chatroom Help & Tips
- Enhanced Backstage & Newsletter with upgraded reCAPTCHA 2.0
- Enhanced Video Requests page with upgraded reCAPTCHA 2.0
- Enhanced Contact Us page with upgraded reCAPTCHA 2.0
- A bunch of bug fixes (mostly with the mobile site)

If you have the time, make sure to check out the latest SFC Site 2 Beta release, on the Early Access forum:  http://sagefun.com/EA/ (now closed)

We hope you enjoy what we have offer for both our fans and viewers! Make sure to tune in to SFC Live on Saturday nights at 7PM Eastern, only on our Youtube channel!

We are really excited to get the public beta out as soon as possible, but we still need some time to get it just right. But for now, enjoy the The SFC Site 2 Beta 4, in all of its modern glory!

(ARCHIVED) SFC Live Announced!

Thanks to all who attended SFC Live. However due to the technical problems we faced, we are not uploading the full pilot stream to Youtube publicly.

Yes, you heard that right: We are introducing live streams to The SFC Group, and it's simply called SFC Live.

SFC Live is a live gaming show on our Youtube channel, that is hosted on Saturday nights at 7PM Eastern (6PM Central/12AM UTC). The focus of our livestreams is mostly on gaming, and we'll be playing games for the majority of the live show. But of course, you can come play and compete with us if you'd like to. SFC Live will also have a live chatroom where fans can interact with us and even ask questions, which we'll answer LIVE on the show.

The first episode will be airing on October 22nd on our Youtube channel, as part of Game 2 of the annual Marble Blast Platinum championships. At the beginning of the first stream, we will introduce the live show, and its rules and regulations. At the end of the gaming portion, we'll take the opportunity to answer questions and you can even share links you want us to look at (as long as it's appropriate).

Make sure to come and watch us live this weekend; it'll be great!

Introducing Codename Early Access!

Yes, you heard that right: Today we are announcing a new special kind of forum from The SFC Group, called Codename Early Access, powered by the Simple Machines Forum, and is the new home to our exclusive content!

So what does the Early Access forum have? Well, I'm glad you've asked. Early Access is split into three sections:

- Information: General information and rules of the Early Access forum.
- Exclusive Content of the Month: Every month, we offer early access to one of our content.

The General section is accessible to all, which means Guests can view this section as well. But to reply or post something on the forum, you'll need to register for an account.

Now onto some train-related news (if you're not interested, scroll down to skip it)...

The Penn Central Fan Site has been renamed to Railfan Central!

For those who don't know, Railfan Central (formerly The Penn Central Fan Site) is our dedicated railroading website and Youtube channel where it all about real-life trains! As a railfan myself, I enjoy working on this content.

Later this month, we'll be rolling out the Railfan Central (RFC) Site version 5.1, with a new Accordion-like interface for the Locomotive galleries, along with new download links on the Downloads page.

Check out the Railfan Central website here:
http://sagefun.com/RFC

But that's not all...

We're announcing new RoadRailer Simulations products!

For those who don't know, RoadRailer Simulations is our third-party division where we develop freeware (and eventually payware) add-ons and scenario packs for DTG's Train Simulator. We've recently launched the RoadRailer Simulations website a while back, but we've haven't done a dedicated announcement on it yet, so let's get going with it!

Now going back to Tech news...

PiOS Development is finally back on track!

The next Alpha version, Alpha 1.2.1, will have the following features:

3. Our Youtube channel has been renovated. We've already announced this earlier, but our Youtube channel renovations are now complete! Most of our videos have updated thumbnails and updated descriptions. We've also archived some of our older videos, and we've removed several videos from our channel. The RailVids videos are in the process being moved over to the Penn Central Fan Site (formerly Project PCFS) Youtube Channel, while our now removed old videos (except the TechNews video) will be put into the SFC archives, and will be shown occasionally on Backstage & Newsletter.

(ARCHIVED) Youtube Channel Changes

Sorry I haven't gotten the chance to post anything on this blog for a while, but this literally needs to be said, and I think it's great news for the future of our content-creator group.

During the month of May, we are going to make one of the biggest changes in SFC history: Our Youtube Channel.

During the next 2 weeks, we will be revamping our Youtube channel, by updating video thumbnails (except for the archived ones), slightly editing videos (on most videos that aren't archived), archiving old videos, removing several videos, monetizing videos (except for the archived ones), and rebranding some of our videos.

The following videos that will be removed are:
- Raspberry Pi - Quick Start Guide (Version 1) *1st video we've uploaded to Youtube!*
- Raspberry Pi - Installing Linux Without NOOBS (Version 1)
- Raspberry Pi Internet Sharing Tutorial
- SFC TechNews - iPhone 6S
- SFC's RailVids - Railvid #1: Dual SD60s in Elephant Style
- SFC's RailVids - RailVid #2: CN SD75I leads an Intermodal
- SFC's RailVids - RailVid #3: Amtrak Vermonter in Vermont

Most of these videos will be put into the SFC Archives, which will be made available via our free email service, Backstage & Newsletter. However, one of our videos (the TechNews Pilot), will not get archived. All of the RailVids videos will be moved over to our Project PCFS Youtube Channel (focused on railroading), which will be made available on the Project PCFS website.

All of these videos listed above will be removed from our official Youtube channel on May 20th, 2016. You'll have one last chance to take a look at these videos (or download them) on our Youtube channel before they go bye-bye.

The following videos that will be archived are:
- SFC Plays Minecraft Episodes 1 through 10
- SFC Plays Train Simulator Episodes 1 through 5 (6 through 12 will get slight updates)
- The Android PC Project video series
- The Dell Dimension XPS T550 Review video series
- SFC's Train Simulator DLC Showcase Pilot (Marias Pass)

These videos will stay on our Youtube channel, but will no longer be updated. These videos won't get monetized, and won't have their thumbnails or descriptions updated. SFC Plays Train Simulator episodes 6 through 12 will get slight thumbnail changes, updated descriptions, and a few fixes (such as missing annotations).

The following videos that will get major revamps are:
- SFC Plays Minecraft Episodes 11 through 14
- SFC Plays Train Simulator Episodes 13 through 18
- SFC Plays Marble Blast Episodes 1 through 6
- All the Windows Software Room videos (with the old format)
- Technology Showdown Test Pilots 1 through 4
- SFC Plays Toontown (single let's play video)

These videos above will get major revamps, such as updated video thumbnails, slight video edits, updated video descriptions, and monetization (if these videos do get approved for that).

Like we said before, these major channel changes will take effect during the next 2 weeks, and we hope you'll enjoy the new changes to our Youtube channel as much as we do!

We're also working on The Computer Cellar Pilot and the Software Room video on Macintosh System 2 as we speak, and we're hoping to get them out during this 2 week period.

For now, I'll see you in the not-too-distant future!

(ARCHIVED) Project PIOS is now available! (Now Discontinued)

Yes, you heard it folks: The first alpha build of Project PIOS is available for download!

For those who don’t know, Project PIOS is an open source linux distribution made specifically for the Raspberry Pi. Project PIOS is based on a minimal installation of Raspbian Linux, which is basically a version of Debian Linux optimized for the Raspberry Pi.

The main goal of Project PIOS is to be a desktop-centric operating system, however we're going to be offering compatibility with the Raspberry Pi accessories and features, such as the Camera Module.

Project PIOS is currently in Alpha, and won't be complete for a long time. As we progress with this distribution, you can contribute to it by following our SourceForge page, in which you can go to by clicking here.

And yes, we do have a SourceForge page for Project PIOS! You can look at Project PIOS screenshots, and in the future, we’ll have a dedicated forum and a wiki for Project PIOS!

Updates to Project PIOS will be posted on this blog, on the Project PIOS website, and on Backstage & Newsletter, so you can get up-to-date news on our new operating system!

You can learn more about Project PIOS here:

(ARCHIVED) April Showers Bring SFC Flowers!

UPDATE 2: The SFC Website has been updated to 1.6.3, with bug fixes and enhancements to both the Apple Product and Software generators.

UPDATE: The Software Room website version 2.1.0 has been released. The changelog is available below the SFC website update changelog.

This month it's April, and we've been EXTREMELY busy on some major changes to SFC, not only with our website, but also with our Youtube channel as well. We are really excited to bring to you some of the MAJOR changes and the new direction we're going in for 2016.

So let's get started with some of the MAJOR announcements:

1. The SFC Website has been updated to 1.6.3. We've updated our website with some improvements and features here and there! Some of these changes are: an enhanced SFC blog, an updated Apple Product and Software Generator, an updated Backstage & Newsletter, an improved Mobile Central, and so on. The full changelog will be available below.

2. We're announcing two NEW projects: Project PIOS and Project PCFS. These two new projects are available on the "Series" page on our website. What are they you might ask? Well, Project PIOS is a linux distribution made for Raspberry Pi newbies, and is based on a minimal installation of Raspbian Linux. Downloads will be available later in April. Project PCFS, on the other hand, is a dedicated Northeast railroading website, for railfans (like myself). Currently, this project is in it's early stages, and will expand later on this year.

3. The Software Room website will be getting its last major update before its closure. The Software Room has been around since the beginnings of SFC, and we did this just for fun! But now, as we are moving to a more social demographic, we're going to be converting the Software Room into a video series. The Software Room website will, however, get its last major update before its eventual closure on May 20th.

There are other, but minor announcements that I would like to mention:

- Our video series, SFC Plays Toontown and RailVids will be discontinued. The first episode of SFC Plays Toontown will be just a single let's play video, while RailVids will be moved over to our new Project PCFS.

- For our Youtube channel for 2016, we're shifting gears into making SFC into more of a tech-related channel. We're still going to be making gaming videos, but there won't be that much gaming content uploaded to our Youtube channel during this time. Our main focus for our Youtube channel are as follows: The Raspberry Pi Guide, Technology Showdown, The Software Room (new format!), and The Computer Cellar.

I hope you enjoy some of the announcements we have to offer, and we hope to get more subscribers for our Youtube channel, and keep our content creator group going!

(ARCHIVED) The SFC Website version 1.6 is out!

UPDATE 2: The SFC Website version 1.6.1 is now available! This update fixes an issue with the favicon, and The Official SFC Blog page has been improved.

UPDATE: A QuickFix for 1.6.0 is out. The QuickFix fixes a bug with the Backstage & Newsletter page.

The SFC Website version 1.6 "The Leap Year Update" is available now!

This is the biggest one we've offered since the last major 1.x release, and there's a lot to go through, so let's get started!

* The Official SFC Blog: The SFC Updates page is gone now, in favor of this new section of our website. The Official SFC Blog is where we post updates and announcements on SFC. Release dates for major SFC projects and our polls have been moved to this new section. Along with that, you can now search for past posts by searching, or by category.

* SFC's Art Gallery: This is a new section of our website, where it's the home to concept art for Technology Showdown and unreleased SFC projects, and the home to fan art made by our fans! If you have any fan art to send in, send us a link to it via the Art Gallery page!

* Apple Product and Software Generators: SFC's Apple Product and Software Generators are now available via the Tech Selections of the Week page. Here you can generate a random Apple Product from the EveryMac and Apple-History database, or a piece of software from the WinWorldPC database! The Software Generator is currently in Beta, but hopefully it will be finished by the end of March.

* Something "Secret": It's top secret, you'll have to find it yourself. (LOL, it's very easy to spot.)

* Lots of improvements and bug fixes: There were several bugs in the 1.5.x updates, and we were able to fix them in this version. Along with that, we have made several improvements to the website as well, including the homepage, the Series page, the About Us page, the Contact Us page, and others.

This is one of the best updates we have ever made, and I hope you enjoy the new changes, too! On a side note, 1.6 will be the last 1.x release of the SFC website, as our next major website release, version 2.0, will be a major redesign of the website, and will be made available in Late 2016/Early 2017.

1.6.1 Update Changelog:
* Improved The Official SFC Blog page
* Fixed an issue with the favicon

1.6.0 Update Changelog:
* Added the Official SFC Blog, replacing the SFC Updates page
* Added SFC's Art Gallery to the More section
* Added the Apple Product and Software generators on the Tech Selections of the Week page
* Added a "Secret" page
* Lots of improvements and bug fixes
